Parent Training and Information Network
Assisting with special education, IEP’s and 504 plans
Raising Special Kids is Arizona's Parent Training and Information (PTI) Center working as a network of support for families and professionals throughout Arizona. This PTI network includes Pilot Parents of Southern Arizona, our Flagstaff office and Hopi and Navajo Liaisons. PTI Centers are established under Part D of IDEA from the United States Department of Education; each state has at least one PTI Center.
As the PTI Center for Arizona, we serve families of children and young adults from birth to age 22 with all disabilities: physical, cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and learning throughout the state.
We help families obtain appropriate education and services for their children with disabilities; work to improve education results for all children; train and inform parents and professionals on a variety of topics; resolve problems between families and schools or other agencies; and connect families to community resources that address their needs.
For further information regarding special education contact your local PTI Center or Network member and visit our list of Education Resources.

State Personnel Development Project
Raising Special Kids is a partner on Arizona’s Department of Education State Personnel Development Grant working on goal 1 and 2. We provide professional development for pre-service special education teachers. We work to improve early literacy, reading and math skills using scientifically based research practices and will provide families with a toolkit on Response to Intervention (RTI).
Professional Development
Raising Special Kids coordinates Parent Panels in which parent share their expertise and perspective on raising a child with a disability or special health need with preservice educators. We offer presentations on effective collaboration between parents and professionals, Special Education IEPs, Section 504 plans, and Inclusive Practices.
Early literacy, reading and math skills
Information is distributed on effective methods of parent involvement in their child's education. Response to Intervention is a method of escalating supports for children who need help in reading, math, or behavior using continuous progress monitoring, scientifically proven instructional methods, and early intervening services. Raising Special Kids is partnering with the Arizona Department of Education to create a toolkit for families ensuring information is available in a family friendly format.
